Resumen de En torno a la posible autoría artística de Nuestra Señora del Rocío, patrona de Almonte (Huelva)

  Uno de los grandes enigmas del fenómeno devocional rociero es precisamente la autoría de la propia imagen titular, la Santísima Virgen del Rocío. Este artículo expone una hipótesis de trabajo muy bien fundamentada, tanto a nivel documental como en el ámbito estético. Entre los paradigmas escogidos por el autor para entablar las concomitancias estilísticas y morfológicas de la Patrona de Almonte, destaca la bosquejada con la Virgen María, que el escultor Jorge Fernández Alemán talló en el misterio de la Natividad del Retablo mayor de la Catedral de Sevilla, a inicios del siglo XVI. En efecto, la ermita de Nuestra Señora de las Rocinas fue reconstruida aquellos años iniciales del Quinientos, coyuntura en la que González Isidoro data la intervención del imaginero alemán. El repertorio de imágenes marianas traídas a colación para proponer la teoría ayuda a comprender, aún mejor, los razonamientos de índole histórico, técnico y artístico.

  One of the greatest enigmas of the rocian devotional phenomenon is, as a matter of fact, the authorship of the image the Holy Virgin of El Rocío. This article sets forth a working hypothesis that is very well substantiated upon documental and esthetic grounds. Among the paradigms selected by the author to piece together the stylistic and morphological concomitances of the Patron Saint of Almonte, one mentions the rendering of the Virgin Mary carved by the sculptor Jorge Fernández Alemán for the Mystery of the Nativity as part of the main altarpiece in the Cathedral of Seville at the beginning of the 16th century. In effect, the hermitage of Our Lady of the Rocinas was reconstructed during the same years near the beginning of the Quinquennial, occasion on which González Isidoro dates the intervention of the German religious artist. The repertoire of Marian images called upon to propose such theory helps to better understand the historical, technical and artistic reasoning employed.
