Los materiales del Diccionario histórico del español de Canarias (DHECan) nos permiten descubrir la antigüedad, variedad y particularidad del léxico diferencial del archipiélago. Aunque no esté concebido y no tenga la misma finalidad que un diccionario etimológico, siempre que ha sido posible se ha facilitado esta información, especialmente para dar cuenta de los aportes procedentes de las lenguas aborígenes y de los préstamos que el contacto con otros pueblos ha generado. En el vocabulario procedente del fondo léxico patrimonial, sin embargo, el tratamiento que recibe la etimología en un diccionario de este tipo es distinto y puede resultar redundante, por lo que solamente se ha precisado el origen del vocablo cuando presenta alguna diferencia con el español estándar o común.

The materials of the Diccionario histórico del español de Canarias (DHECan) allow us to discover the age, variety and lexical characteristics of the Islands. Although is not intended, whenever it has been possible all this information is provided, especially to address the contributions that come from the native language and loans generated by the contact with other cultures. However, for the rest of the vocabulary, the treatment given in a dictionary of this type to the etymology is different and can be sometimes redundant. This is why the origin of the word is indicated just in case there exists a difference with the common standard Spanish.
