The criteria adopted at the 9.4 hectare La Atalayuela industrial estate chal!enge the traditional methods of managing urban surface water run-off.
The design criteria were:
• Hydraulic invariance, adapting the design to the morphology ofthe land.
• Use of drainage trenches as an alternative to pipes.
• lntroduction of rain gardens that actas infiltration points.
• Reduction of the run-off coefficient in urban areas by the use of permeable pavement.
This form of reconsidering and reconstructing the hydrologic cycle by the naturalisation of the urban landscape contributes, among many other benefits of irrefutable value, to the creation of healthy spaces for its inhabitants and to improving the quality of the surroundings in the broadest sense of the word.
