    El presente artículo discute las concepciones de Estado atribuidas a dos corrientes de pensamiento: el liberalismo y el marxismo. Se plantea la especificidad del Estado en América Latina y los alcances y limitaciones de ambas corrientes.

    El liberalismo, como la mayoría de las producciones políticas-ideológicas de la Modernidad, se fue constituyendo urbi et orbi y esa pretensión le dio una suerte de impronta de aplicación inevitable, fatal y funcional a cualquier espacio y lugar.

    Pensar el marxismo desde América Latina requiere por un lado, valorar su potencia cuestionadora respecto del Orden Social y, por otro, revisar y analizar hasta qué punto dicha teoría “alcanza” para pensar no sólo al Estado, sino también a la sociedad latinoamericana. Este último punto demanda no caer en críticas triviales… Pero cabe la misma pregunta que se hizo sobre los alcances del liberalismo: ¿Puede una matriz gestada en Europa responder de manera adecuada a las necesidades latinoamericanas en modo y sentido oportuno?

    This article discusses the concepts of State attributed to two streams of thought:

    liberalism and Marxism. Raises the specificity of the State in Latin America and the scope and limitations of both currents.

    Liberalism, as the majority of the politics-ideologicals productions of modernity, was forming urbi et orbi and that claim gave him a kind of mark of inevitable, fatal and functional application to any space and place. Think Marxism from Latin America requires on the one hand, assess its State power with respect to the Social order and, on the other, review and analyze to what extent this theory "reaches" to think about not only the State, but also Latin American society. This last point demands to avoid trivial criticism... But it is the same question that was made on the scope of liberalism: can a matrix developed in Europe to respond adequately to the Latin American needs in timely sense and mode
