  Durante los últimos meses del gobierno de Pezuela la crisis política y económica del Virreinato del Perú se vio acentuada por el desembarco de San Martín que llevó la guerra a las puertas de Lima. En el Pronunciamiento de Aznapuquio los altos oficiales del ejército mostraron su disconformidad entregando el mando a José de la Serna. Siguiendo las pautas del liberalismo, el nuevo mandatario trató de introducir reformas en la Hacienda para hacer frente a los gastos de la Administración y a la financiación de la guerra. El trabajo analiza el hasta ahora inédito Padrón General de Contribuyentes de Lima, que supuso un intento sin precedentes de modernizar el sistema fiscal introduciendo un tributo personal y progresivo sobre las rentas.

  During the last months of the Pezuela government, the political and economic crisis of the Viceroyalty of Peru was aggravated by the disembarkation of San Martín, who brought the war to Lima. During the Proclamation of Aznapuquito, the higher ranks of the military showed their discontent with the assignation of the command to José de la Serna. In compliance with the rules of liberalism, the new commissioner tried to introduce fiscal reforms to face the administration’s expenditure and the cost of war. This investigation analyses the hitherto unpublished general tax register of Lima, which was a unique attempt to modernize the fiscal system by introducing a personal and progressive income tax.
