  • Pearce talks about ecological offsetting, which is becoming popular, with more and more governments seeing it as a way of pleasing both developers and conservationists. The ideals even leading to the creation offset markets in which different kinds of habitats are traded. Provided there is no net loss to biodiversity, the argument goes, everybody wins.
