The Cognitive Styles Index (CSI) en estudiantes de educación superior de una ciudad del sur de Chile

    Se evidencia el desarrollo de investigaciones en torno a la variable estilos de aprendizaje en estudiantes de educación superior, no obstante, utilizan mediciones que no cuentan con sustento psicométrico. Así, es relevante incorporar un instrumento que contenga el constructo características de aprendizaje acompañado de propiedades psicométricas óptimas, siendo The Cognitive Style Index (CSI) de Allinson y Hayes adecuado para este propósito. El objetivo de esta investigación ha sido la adaptación del instrumento CSI a la población de educación superior, siendo la muestra utilizada de 236 estudiantes. Se realizó la equivalencia lingüística mediante traducción inversa. Se realizó AFC para determinar la validez de constructo confirmándose la presencia unifactorial del instrumento, la fiabilidad de éste resultó ser alta (α=0.61), se corroboró la relación entre las variables del ítem y un factor único. A partir de la evidencia psicométrica mostrada, se sitúa el CSI como un instrumento adecuado.

    There is evidence of concern, both in the research and educational practices, as to evaluating cognitive and learning aspects in higher education, particularly in the variable learning styles. However, the research development have not considered instruments that count with psychometric support. This way, it is relevant to incorporate in the measurement an instrument that contains the construct cognitive styles, understood as a characteristic involved in learning, along with optimal psychometric properties, being The Cognitive Style Index (CSI) of Allinson and Hayes suitable for this purpose. The objetive of this research has been to adapt the CSI instrument to the higher education population of a city in southern Chile.

    Through inverse translation, Alpha de Cronbach and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (AFC), linguistic equivalence, adequate reliability and construct validity were confirmed. From the psychometric evidence shown, the CSI is placed as an appropriate instrument to identify and describe the Cognitive Style as a relevant tool to show students characteristics and their way of learning, in the context of future research
