    Eugenio Oneguin, de Aleksander Serguiévich Pushkin, es una de las obras más importantes de la literatura rusa; autores como Nabokov, Pasternak, Ajmatova, Svetaeva, Tolstoi y Dostoievsky han reconocido su influencia. El presente artículo analiza la necesidad de una edición crítica de Eugenio Oneguin que le aporte al lector una traducción de los textos de otros autores rusos que se mencionan en la novela y contribuyen a caracterizar a los personajes. Para el lector de lengua hispana, a menudo resulta imposible conseguir una traducción de dichos materiales, en caso de que existan. Para mostrar la importancia de una edición que integre dichos textos, el artículo analiza las referencias a la Svetlana de Vasily Andrévich Zhukovsky que aparecen en Eugenio Oneguin y muestra cómo una edición crítica que presente en un mismo volumen la novela de Pushkin y el texto íntegro de Svetlana podría enriquecer la experiencia de los lectores en español, en vez de limitarlos a una nota al pie de página que muchas veces poco explica.

    Eugene Onegin, by Alexander Sergyevich Pushkin, is one of the most important and influential accomplishments of the Russian Literature; authors like Pasternak, Ajmatova, Svetaeva, Tolstoi, and Dostoievsky have acknowledged its influence. This article explores the need of a critical edition in Spanish of A. S. Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin that provides the reader with a translation of texts referred to in Pushkin’s masterpiece, but that are difficult to gather, provided they have been translated into Spanish. As a case study, the article analyzes the references to Vasily Andrévich Zhukovsky’s Svetlana in Eugene Onegin and explores how much richer it would be for t e Spanish reader to have a critical edition of the novel that integrates the whole text of Svetlana, instead of circumscribing him to a footnote about Zhukovsky’s masterpiece, which usually does not explain too much.
