Resumen de La cooperazione tra Chiesa cattolica, Chiesa anglicana e Chiese Libere in Inghilterra durante la seconda guerra mondiale

Raffaella Perin

  • The essay deals with the birth and development of the movement called Sword of the Spirit, promoted in the summer of 1940 by major personalities of the English Catholicism in agreement with the archbishop of Westminster, as a crusade of prayers against totalitarianisms, in order to prove the support of English Catholics to the national cause and to foster the reconstruction of Europe on Christian principles. From the very beginning the promoters of the movement pushed for the involvement of other English Christian denominations finding the support of the Anglican bishop of Chichester, David Bell. The interest for an interdenominational cooperation aiming at encouraging the fight of nazi-fascism was confirmed by other initiatives organized by the main leaders of the British Churches. These initiatives will also be the object of this article.
