    Introduction: Urbach-Wiethe syndrome (SUW), or Lipoidic Proteinosis, is a rare autosomal recessive disease described in 1929 by Dermatologist Erich Urbach and Otolaryngologist Camilo Wiethe.

    Clinical case: 66 years-old female patient with irrelevant personal history, reffered to the emergency department due to a foreign body ingestion. The physical examination showed swelling and leukoplakic lesions of the posterior wall of the oropharynx and larynx. The biopsy revealed the diagnosis of SUW.

    Conclusions: The SUW has typical otolaryngological presentations, which may point to the diagnosis, later confirmed by histological examination, with no specific treatment.

    Introdução: A Síndrome de Urbach-Wiethe (SUW), ou Proteinose Lipoidica, é uma doença autossómica recessiva rara descrita em 1929 pelo Dermatologista Erich Urbach e pelo Otorrinolaringologista Camilo Wiethe.

    Caso clínico: Doente de 66 anos, sexo feminino e antecedentes pessoais irrelevantes. Recorre à urgência de otorrinolaringologia por ingestão de corpo estranho, onde é observada tumefacção e lesões leucoplásicas da parede posterior da orofaringe e laringe. A biópsia das lesões revelou o diagnóstico de SUW.

    Conclusões: A SUW tem manifestações otorrinolaringológicas típicas, que podem apontar para o diagnóstico, posteriormente confirmado por exame histológico, sem tratamento específico.
