Resumen de La fiesta de canonización de san Jacinto en Zaragoza y la participación de Cervantes

En 1595 se celebraron en Zaragoza unas importantes fiestas en honor del religioso dominico San Jacinto de Polonia canonizado por Clemente VIII. Entre otros actos los dominicos convocaron un certamen de poesía con siete secciones, diferentes temas y tipo de composiciones. A él concurrió Miguel de Cervantes y ganó el primer premio de la segunda sección. En el desarrollo del trabajo podremos ver que la conmemoración siguió el modelo de ‘fiesta barroca’ que tanto utilizaría la Iglesia Católica durante dos siglos y que incorporó a sus celebraciones a partir del concilio de Trento.

In 1595 there was a solemn celebration in Saragossa in honor of the Dominican friar Saint Hyacinth of Poland, canonized by Clement VIII. Among other events, the Dominican friars organized a poetry contest with seven sections, different themes and types of compositions.
Miguel de Cervantes took part in the competition and won the first prize in the second section.
In the development of this study we will see that this celebration follows the format of “Baroque Festivities”. The Catholic Church would incorporate it into their celebrations since the Council of Trent for two centuries.
