La villa de Utebo, situado a pocos kilómetros de Zaragoza, se ha convertido en los últimos años, una verdadera cultural y artístico punto de ebullición. Dentro de la amplia agenda cultural que se ofrece en Utebo durante el año, cabe destacar, en elperíodo de verano, el Simposio de Escultura que se viene celebrando desde 2004.Esta experiencia artística de gran importancia no sólo en Aragón, sino también en toda España y resto del mundo se inició con cuatro objetivos:- Para abordar el proceso de creación artística a los ciudadanos.- Para establecer las condiciones para futuros talleres de escultura.- A fin de ampliar el patrimonio artístico del municipio.- Para embellecer algunas zonas del entorno urbano.Con estas intenciones, el Área de Cultura comenzó a promover este espectáculo de “vivir la escultura de piedra” con un muy generoso presupuesto destinado por el Ayuntamiento, una cantidad que ha aumentado en estos cuatro años a partir de los 21.000 euros en la primera a los 24.000, pasó este 2007. Aunque en la primera edición los cuatro artistas participantes fueron invitados por su reconocido prestigio, en el resto de simposia la selección de los proyectos se ha realizado a través de una convocatoria pública que año tras año es un excelente éxito, debido al número de propuestas recibidas y su calidad y la variedad de los lugares de donde provienen.Durante los quince días que dura el evento, se crea un nuevo espacio de arte al aire libre, en el que cuatro artistas públicos y, simultáneamente, tienen la oportunidad de resolver dudas de las personas que observan todo el proceso. A lo largo de estas cuatro ediciones, han participado catorce escultores y dejaron su firma en otras muchas esculturas que aumentan el considerable patrimonio artístico municipal. Gracias a ellos, la ciudad se convierte en una pequeña muestra del panorama artístico actual con el eclecticismo que está en vigor, que con la confluencia de múltiples tendencias que es lo que caracteriza a nuestro tiempo: la figuración, la abstracción, el simbolismo, el conceptualismo ...Al caminar por los parques, plazas y calles de Utebo resulta ser la misma experiencia que acontece al cruzar las salas de un museo de arte contemporáneo, pero con notables diferencias: las obras están en espacios abiertos, su percepción no es nunca la misma porque cambia durante el día y a lo largo de los años, y son admirados por un público más numeroso que en cualquier museo.

The town of Utebo, located a few kilometers from Saragossa, has became in the last years, a true cultural and artistic boiling point. Within the extensive cultural agenda that is offered in Utebo through the year, it is possible to emphasize, in the summer period, the Sculpture Symposium that comes celebrating since 2004.This artistic experience of great importance not only in Aragon, but also in all Spain and rest of the world started up withfour objectives:- To approach the process of artistic creation to citizens.- To set the conditions for future sculpture workshops.- To extend the artistic patrimony of the municipality.- To embellish certain zones of the urban surroundings.With these previous intentions, the Area of Culture began to promote this spectacle of “live stone sculpture” for which a quite generous budget was destined considering the possibilities of the Town hall, a sum that has increased in these four years from the21,000 Euros in the first one to the 24,000, spent this 2007. Although in the first edition the four participant artists were invited by his recognised prestige, in the rest of simposia the selection of the projects has been realised through a public call that is year after year an excellent success, because of the number of received proposals and its quality and the variety of places from which they come.During the fifteen days that the event lasts, a new artistic space is created outdoors, in which four artists works in public and, simultaneously, have the opportunity to solve doubts of the people who observe all the process. Throughout these four editions, fourteen sculptors have participated and left their signature in other many sculptures that thicken the considerable municipal artistic patrimony. Thanks to them, the town becomes a small sample of the present artistic panorama in which that eclecticism is present, that confluence of multiple tendencies that is what characterises our time:figuration, abstraction, symbolism, conceptualism…To walk by the parks, places and streets of Utebo turns out to be the same experience that appreciated when crossing the rooms of a museum of contemporary art, but with remarkable differences: the works are in open spaces, its perception is never the same because it changes during the day and over the years, and are admired by a more numerous public than in any museum.
