  • Resumen
    • Microwave ovens use a magnetron to generate electromagnetic waves with a wavelength of 12.5 centimeters and a frequency of 2.4 gigahertz--perfect for vibrating water molecules to heat food. Although most are guided to heat the food, some escape through the gap around the oven door and through the metal-meshed window. The US Food and Drug Administration stipulates that leakage cannot exceeds milliwatts per square centimeter, approximately 5cm from the oven surface. Here, Marks talks about how energy that escapes through microwave door can be scavenged to run low-power kitchen gadgets.
