Cardinal Domenico Orsini played a decisive role in the success of Domenico Corvi, and his affirmation as one of the leading painters in the papal state. Two unpublished payments provide new information on the cycle of canvases with scenes from the life of Saint Clare, now in the Certosa di Vedana: we now know these were painted between 1758 and 1762 for the church (now destroyed) of Santissima Conzezione ai Monti in Rome. Two additions to the artist's oeuvre, a "Beheading of the Baptist" and a "Holy Family", offer further evidence of his significant poetics, and of how important Corvi was in shaping the evolution of Roman painting during the second half of the eighteenth century.
