La comunidad científico-forense está tratando de implementar cambios que ayuden a luchar contra el tráfico de armas en la Unión Europea. Una realidad que se hizo más evidente tras los atentados de 2015 en París. La concreción en los tipos de armas objeto de comercio ilegal y la conexión de sistemas de identificación balística podrían ser las claves para reducir drásticamente esta actividad ilícita, al menos en los países miem- bros. La aparición del formato X3P puede suponer una solución alternativa a la conexión de sistemas, permitiendo igualmente compartir la información forense, al tiempo que aporta una evolución en la metodología de trabajo de los laboratorios forenses.

The scientific-forensic community is trying to implement changes that help in the fighting against arms trafficking in the European Union. A reality that became more evident after the 2015 terrorist attacks, in Paris. The specification of the types of wea- pons, that are object of illegal trade and the connection of ballistic identification sys- tems, could be the key to drastically reduce this illegal activity, at least in the European Union countries. The appearance of the X3P format, can be an alternative solution to the connection of systems, allowing also to share forensic information, while providing an evolution in the working methodology of forensics laboratories.
