A sense of touch lets one connects with loved ones and interact with his surroundings. But people who have lost limbs must navigate the world without this input. Sliman Bensmaia at the University of Chicago in Illinois, is working to change that with a new monkey model for transmitting a sense of touch to the brain, bypassing skin and nerves. He hopes it will be a blueprint for human prosthetics that convey a real sense of touch.
