  • This article analyses a corpus of romances collected in the ms. XVII.30 preserved in the National Library of Naples. The set of texts shows a specific contribution to the poetic genre throughout its transition from the romance nuevo to romance novísimo. Due to their Neapolitan ambience and baroque style, greatly indebted to Gongora’s poetry, the texts analysed provide a valuable perspective on the Spanish-Neapolitan osmosis that characterized the courtiers and cultural environments during Antonio Alvarez de Toledo’s viceroyalty.
