    Este texto busca identificar e analisar as instruções para uma conduta exemplar dos clérigos regulares presentes na obra Mestre da Virtude, do padre português dominicano João Franco. Neste livro, publicado em Lisboa, em 1745, o autor busca incitar os clérigos ao cumprimento de suas obrigações religiosas, destacando as atitudes próprias de um “bom religioso” e as transgressões mais comuns que deviam ser corrigidas e eliminadas da vivência religiosa, visando à adoção de um determinado modelo de vida cristã clerical no interior dos conventos portugueses. Essas instruções, que seguiam a moral tridentina e tiveram forte ressonância em Portugal até meados do século XVIII, diziam respeito aos comportamentos sociais e morais esperados do clero regular português tanto pela Igreja, quanto pelos leigos.

    This text seeks to identify and analyze the instructions for an exemplary conduct of the regular clergymen present in the work Mestre da Virtude, by Portuguese Dominican priest João Franco. In this book, published in Lisbon in 1745, the author seeks to incite the clergymen to fulfill their religious obligations, highlighting the attitudes of a "good religious man" and the most common transgressions that should be corrected and eliminated from the religious living, aiming for the adoption of a certain model of Christian clerical living in the inside of Portuguese convents. These instructions, which followed Tridentine morals and had a strong resonance in Portugal until part of the 18th century, pertained to the social and moral behaviors expected from the Portuguese regular clergy by the Church, as well as by laymen.
