Kemp investigates the Earth before humans. A hundred-and-twenty-five thousand years ago, Earth was part way through the Femian interglacial period--a 15,000-year-long temperate phase bookended by two much longer, colder glacials. Suddenly, it had become a warm and greenworld. In the northern hemisphere, continental ice sheets had retreated from as far south as Germany in Europe and Illinois in North America.
