The objectives of this work are twofold. In first place, a stochastic frontier approach (SFA) is used to estimate the technical efficiency and its determinants of 232 durum wheat farms in sub-humid regions of northern Tunisia. Secondly, the relationship between the scores of technical efficiency and farms size is analyzed. The results showed that the average of farms technical efficiency is about 85% which means there is a potential of production increase about 15%. This potential is higher for the medium size of farms. Therefore, the relationship between size of farms and technical efficiency is not linear but quadratic. Also, the results indicated that inefficiency of medium farms which represent 36% of the surveyed farms is mainly attributed to the region and farmers educational level.
