This article offers an overview of Ramon Llull’s poetic works from a chronological and formal perspective. By connecting every text with its context of composition and its literary tradition, an interesting pattern in the evolution of Llull’s use of poetic forms emerges. It also becomes clear that Llull’s purpose when choosing this form was the promotion and dissemination of his apostolic and intellectual message
