La formación del Somatén de Carchelejo durante la dictadura de Primo de Rivera. El acto de bendición de bandera

    En la noche del 12 al 13 de septiembre de 1923 el Capitán General de Cataluña, D. Miguel Primo de Rivera, encabeza un golpe militar que pretende sacar al país del estado de letargo y decadencia en que, según los participantes, se encontraba.

    Uno de los objetivos del nuevo régimen es implicar a la población civil en la defensa y mantenimiento del orden y la estabilidad social, bajo el lema “Paz, paz y paz”.

    Para ello, y mediante el Real Decreto de 17 de septiembre, se extiende en toda España la institución del Somatén.

    Esta institución, de honda tradición en Cataluña, tiene como objetivo colaborar en la seguridad de los pueblos mediante una milicia ciudadana armada integrada por elementos provenientes –principalmentede las clases medias, identificadas con los ideales de civismo, honradez y justicia propios del sistema impuesto.

    En Carchelejo, la formación del Somatén se llevará a cabo desde un primer momento, constituyéndose la Junta de admisión del Somatén el día 17 de septiembre, abriéndose el plazo de inscripción hasta mediados de octubre.

    De sus integrantes, relación con el partido Unión Patriótica, actuaciones llevadas a cabo y escenificación del acto de bendición de la Bandera es de lo que trata el presente trabajo.

    Early in the morning of the 13th of september 1923, Captain General of Catalonia Miguel Primo de Rivera, heads a military coup that pretends to bring the country out of the state of lethargy and decadence, in which, according to the participants, the country was.

    One of the objectives of the new political regime is to involve the civil population in the defence and maintenance of social order and stability, under the motto:

    “Peace, Peace and Peace.

    For that reason, and with the Royal Decree of the 17th of september, the Somatén Institution spreads all over Spain.

    This institution, deeply rooted in Catalonia, has as first objective to colaborate in the villages security with an armed civil militia formed by, mainly, middle class people identified with the ideals of citizenship, honesty and justice, distinctive features of the imposed regime.

    In Carchelejo, the formation of Somatén takes place from the very beginning, being established the Somatén admisssion board the 17th of september, opening the registration period till the middle of october.

    About the participants, relation with the Unión Patriótica Party, actions performed and dramatization of the flag blessing act is what this work is about.
