Se describe de forma inédita la “vegetación potencial” de Sierra Mágina, entendiendo por ésta la evolución a través de distintos “niveles de madurez” en los que la diversidad de especies del estrato arbóreo sería cada vez mayor. Se desechan ciertas ideas sobre el concepto “monte mediterráneo”, demostrando que los pinares forman parte de él. Se describen las asociaciones vegetales de este macizo y de las sierras prebéticas y subbéticas del sur de la provincia de Jaén, destacando formaciones únicas en el mundo.

The “potential vegetation” of the Sierra Mágina is described in an unprecedented way, understanding the evolution through different “maturity levels” in which the species diversity of the arboreal stratum would be increasing. Certain ideas about the “Mediterranean forest” concept are discarded, demonstrating that the pine forests are part of it. It describes the plant associations of this massif and the prebetic and subbetic mountain ranges of the south of the province of Jaén, highlighting unique formations in the world.
