Industrial Minerals
According to a 2014 study published by the UK’s University of Exeter in 2014, annual production of synthetic hydrothermal quartz is just 1,000 tpy. China has been attempting to produce HPQ domestically from natural Chinese quartz since the 1980s but has never been able to consistently achieve the necessary purities needed to establish a successful local industry. “Since the 1970s, developed countries have been the leaders in HPQ processing techniques,” Xiaoyong Yang, a professor at the University of Science and Technology of China based in Hefei, Anhui province, said. According to its developers, the oven saves energy and cuts the time it takes to bake a loaf of bread by 20% on average. The quartz we are looking to produce will only be for our own internal needs. Because we have a proprietary process to turn quartz into silicon, our decision regarding the type of quartz we produce we be finalized after our next round of testing.
