Impact of migraine on patient's quality of life

  • Introduction: Migraine is a neurological condition which found in large numbers of populations. Migraine is 3rd most prevalent and 7th leading cause of disability worldwide. It adversely impacts on the patient's quality of life. Objective: Main objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of migraine condition on the quality of life of migraine patient. Method: After taking ethical approval and inform consent from the patient, patient's demographic details and prescribing details were recorded. Migraine specific quality of life questionnaire version 2.1 was examined for neurology outpatient department at multispecialty hospital at Ahmadabad for six month study period. Result: 100 patient were reported for this condition during our study period. Out of them male patients (61.76%) were high in numbers as compared to female (41.18%). 78.63% patients were suffering migraine from more than one year, 11.12% patients were suffering migraine headache from more than six months, rest were newly diagnosed with the same. From the risk factor assessment we reported that among all, 32.23% patients had family history for the migraine headache. 48.23% patients were reported with the caffeine intake history. More than 90% patients received prophylactic treatment for monotherapy or polytherapy. 95% prescribing medicines were found from WHO essential drug list. According to the data we reported that large numbers of prescriptions were prescribed in the rational prescribing format. Only 5% patients were reported with comorbidity. Conclusion: Migraine condition is the impact on the patients' mental, physical, social and cost factor. Patients feel mental burden for the same
