La escritura autobiográfica de Sergio Pitol supone una rebeldía frente al género autobiográfico mismo. Es la desconfianza del autor hacia la palabra como instrumento eficiente para recuperar un pasado ya desvirtuado por la memoria la que privilegia la ficción como motor de ese recuerdo. Así, el “sedimento autobiográfico” no condiciona la escritura ni la clasifica dentro de los géneros autobiográficos, sino que origina ese proceso de ficcionalización.

The autobiographical writing of Sergio Pitol is a rebellion against the autobiographical genre itself. It is the distrust of the author towards the Word as an efficient instrument to retrieve a past already subverted by the memory that privileges the fiction as an engine of that memory. Thus, the “autobiographical sediment” conditions not the writing or the classified within the autobiographical genres, but it originates this process of fictionalization.
