For the young Cortázar, the works of Jean-Paul Sartre bridge the gap between philosophy and literature: the teacher who reinvents himself as a translator and ends his metamorphosis as a writer follows this example. In Sartre, he finds not only a model of writing, but also of analysis: the short story «Bestiario» can be interpreted according to the «existential psychoanalysis» that formed Cortázar’s center of interest at the time of its creation.
