    L’ermita de Sant Sebastià d’Elx és un dels edificis més antics de la ciutat. Construïda a finals del segle xv, és també l’únic oratori urbà que s’ha mantigut de peus fins els nostres dies. I això, sens dubte, per lʼestreta relació amb la Festa d’Elx. Seu de la primitiva Confraria de l’Assumpció i lloc on es venerava la imatge de la Mare de Déu de l’Assumpció fins el1648, els cantors del Misteri l’han utilitzat de camerino fins la construcció de la Casa de la Festa, el1988. Va patir greus desperfectes en el segle xix, quan va veure enfonsar-se el seu presbiteri. Desacralitzada el 1936 ja no recuperà el seu caràcter eclesiàstic i en els anys setanta del segle xx va passar a ser seu del Patronat del Misteri d’Elx. El 1997 es convertí en la sala d’audiovisuals del Museu Municipal de la Festa i obrí una nova etapa de relació amb el drama assumpcionista, ara com a edifici destinat a difondre els seus valors durant tot l’any. La llarga història de l’ermita es posa de manifest en les seues parets i en la documentació i d’altres importants testimonis materials conservats.

    The chapel of San Sebasià d’Elx is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Built in the end of the XV century, it is the only urban chapel that has stood until our time. This fact is, of course, due to its relation with la Festa d’Elx. Headquarter of the primitive Cofraria de l’Assumpció, and place of veneration of the image of the Mother of God of the Assumpció until 1648, the singers from the Misteri used it as a dressing room until the construction of Casa de la Festa, in 1988. The chapel suffered serious damages in the XIX century, as a result, its high altar collapsed. Demystified in 1936, it would never get its ecclesiastical function back. It was in the 70’s when it became the Patronat del Misteri d’Elx headquarters. In 1997 it started being used as the audiovisual room of the Museu Municipal de la Festa, bringing back a relation with ancient periods as a place of prayer to the Virgin of the Assumpció. The building is nowadays working as a place to spread the values of the ancient tradition of the city. The long history of the chapel is reflected both, on its walls and the documents and testimonies conserved.
