    La primera celebració del Primer de Maig va suposar, sense assabentar-se’n els seus protagonistes, la creació d’un dia de lluita del moviment obrer que ha anat esdevenint, alhora, tradició i moviment cultural. Tanmateix, des d’aquell 1890, el Dia del Treballador s’ha anat configurant com una diada reivindicativa en què els sindicats en sospesen la influència en la societat. A Crevillent, com a població eminentment industrial, l’1 de Maig s’ha anat celebrant al llarg de la història amb els daltabaixos comuns a la resta del món. Així tot, a la ciutat catifera la festivitat es reivindica d’una manera que la fa distingir-se de la resta de l’Estat. Des de principis de segle xx, pels carrers té lloc una diana reivindicativa a primeres hores del matí. L’albà, anomenada Amanecer, és més coneguda amb el nom de l’Obrero levanta i en la seua lletra s’aprecien tots els valors que promulga el moviment obrer. En aquest article pretenem oferir una visió històrica de la celebració del Primer de Maig a Crevillent, que ha acabat convertint-se, finalment, en una manifestació cultural i en un ritual d’identitat obrera.

    The first celebration of the 1st of May supposed, without knowing its participants, the conception of a day of struggle organized by the labour movement that had become a tradition and a cultural tendency itself. As such, since 1890, the Workers’ Day has become a day in which the unions weight out their influence on society. In Crevillent, as an imminent industrial town, the 1st May has been celebrated since then, suffering the usual ups and downs, just like in the rest of the world. All in all, in this particular carpet making city, this celebration is maintained differently from the rest of the State. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the day starts with the singing of an activist chorus in the early morning. The sunrise or so-called Amanecer is better known as the Obrero Levanta («Worker get up») and in its lyrics, we can appreciate all the values promoted by the workers’ movement.

    In the present article, we are trying to offer a historic vision of the 1st of May in Crevillent, together with its song Amanecer and the way it has eventually evolved into a cultural manifestation and a ritual for the workers’ identity.
