Los datos sobre zarpes de 43 buques y sus manifiestos de carga entre 1539-1543 permiten analizar la frecuencia de barcos que salen de El Realejo, su carga y la cantidad de indios exportados legal e ilegalmente, las personas que viajaban, el tipo de carga, el nombre del barco, el dueño y el maestre de barco y su equipo y fecha de su salida. La documentación permite reconstruir el procedimiento necesario para poder zarpar de un puerto hispano en el siglo XVI, incluyendo las fianzas requeridas para la salida del país de personas de origen autóctono.

On the basis of “trials” on two Nicaraguan governors, where evidence on the illegal export of indians was sought, the sailings of 43 ships and their cargos are recorded. This data, covering 1539 to 1543, allows estimates to be made of the frequency of sailings from El Realejo, the cargos carried and the number of indians exported, legal or illegally. Every person who traveled is identified, the type of cargo, the type of ship, the names of the captain and shipowner, equipment carried and the sailing date for each ship is provided. This information allows the reconstruction of the procedures required for a ship to sail from a Spanish port in the 16th Century, including the deposit required by a native person traveling out of the country.
