The article discusses the work of contemporary painters who according to the author are committed to the idea of painting as a means to address the significance of both the visible and invisible. Artists discussed include the Iranian-born painter Ali Banisadr, the Romanian abstract painter Victor Ciato, and the Czech artist Zdeněk Beran. The author also briefly comments on the relationship between painting and archaeology.
