    This article deals with the vocabulary describing the enemy in the Second Book of Maccabees. It examines how in this historical and religious work - which was directly written in Greek by a Jewish author - the passion felt by the author is expressed through words with negative connotations, which are referring to genres of public sphere in Classical Athens such as drama and oratory. The way the author is using the language of the Other and his knowledge of the Greek literature allow us to discuss the cultural history of the Jewish Hellenistic world.

    L’article porte sur le vocabulaire qualifiant l’ennemi dans le deuxième livre des Maccabées. Il étudie comment, dans cette œuvre à caractère historique, écrite directement en grec par un auteur juif et toute pénétrée de sentiment religieux, la passion éprouvée par l’auteur s’exprime dans le choix de termes connotés négativement, qui renvoient directement à des genres de la sphère publique de l’Athènes classique, théâtre et éloquence. L’usage que fait l’auteur de la langue de l’autre et la connaissance qu’il a de sa littérature permettent d’aborder l’histoire culturelle du monde juif hellénistique.
