By apostrophizing the gods gathered in assembly as andres theoi, the Zeus of Lucian plays on a parallel between divine assemblies, such as the meetings on the Olympus described by Homer, and human assemblies within the institutional framework of the polis. Starting primarily from Lucian’s treatise known as The Assembly of the Gods, here we propose an analysis of the way in which Lucian plays with Homeric references, while echoing specific debates, ancient and recent, on the status of the gods and on the introduction of foreign gods.

En apostrophant les dieux réunis en assemblée comme andres theoi, le Zeus de Lucien joue sur le rapprochement entre assemblées divines dans l’Olympe, telles qu’Homère les met en scène, et assemblées humaines dans le cadre institutionnel de la polis. En partant prioritairement du traité de Lucien intitulé L’Assemblée des dieux, on propose ici une analyse de la manière dont Lucien joue des références homériques, tout en faisant écho à certains débats, anciens et de son temps, sur le statut des dieux et l’accueil des dieux étrangers.
