This communication, devoted to the restriking of coins in the Greek world during Antiquity, first proposes a qualified assessment of the results of elemental analysis that aim to determine the provenance of the coined metal. Then, drawing on those results and on literary sources, it tries to shed light on conditions of metal supply (in the form of coins or ingots) of mints like Athens, Siphnos and Thasos, leading thus to the development of analytical models that aim to improve our understanding of the phenomenon of restriking and the part it played in Greek coinage.
