Resumen de Guanacaste: el surgimiento de un discurso regionalista, 1900-1926

Basado principalmente en fuentes periodísticas, el artículo analiza la emergencia del discurso regionalista guanacasteco en Costa Rica en las primeras décadas del siglo veinte. Se brinda atención especial a la coyuntura de la conmemoración del centenario de la anexión del Partido de Nicoya a Costa Rica, que inicialmente despertó grandes esperanzas pero luego se convirtió en una amarga desilusión para los promotores del incipiente regionalismo guanacasteco. La frustración causada por la manera en que se llevaron a cabo los festejos oficiales profundizó la reflexión crítica sobre el trato histórico que el Estado nacional le había dado a la provincia y consolidó el discurso sobre Guanacaste como la provincia injustamente abandonada por el Estado costarricense.

Based mainly on journalistic sources, the article analyzes the emergence of the Guanacastecan regionalist discourse in Costa Rica in the first decades of the twentieth century. Special attention is paid to the conjuncture of the commemoration of the centenary of the annexation of the Partido de Nicoya to Costa Rica that initially woke up great hopes but soon became a bitter disappointment for the promoters of the incipient regionalism. The frustration caused by the way in which the official commemoration took place deepened the critical reflection on the historical relationship between the national State and the province and consolidated the discourse on Guanacaste as the province unjustly abandoned by the Costa Rican State.
