Este trabajo explora las relaciones entre el Asilo Chapul y la sociedad costarricense en la primera mitad del siglo XX. El hilo conductor es la existencia de una elite social filantrópica y su proyección. Este trabajo forma parte de una investigación en proceso sobre la salud mental y el período de cambio que desembocó en los hechos violentos de 1948.
This article explores the relationship between the Chapui Asylum and the Costa Rican society in the first half of the 20th century. The guiding thread is the existence of a social philanthropic elite and its public action. This article belong to a larger research proyect in progress about mental health and the period of change that culminated with the violent conflict of 1948.
