Resumen de Concepts of ”language” in discourse: an interactional resource in troubled intercultural contexts
Thepresent study is concerned with the use ofeveryday concepts in ordinary discourse. Concepts have largely been a concern in philosophy, logic, psychology, and psycholinguistics. Scholars from these disciplines have tended to treat "concepts" merely äs theoretical objects and explanatory resources; for example, they have usually been concerned with how concepts affect people's experience, behavior, or whatever. But scarce attention has been paid to "concepts" äs people's own concern, that is, äs the object of their definition, argumentation, and manipulation and äs a means to achieve practical social ends. The present investigation then will take a discursive perspective on the latter sort of concept and attempt to understand how everyday concepts are discursively constructed in sociocultural context. In conclusion, issues about how concepts in human (discursive) interaction should be conceptualized are discussed.
