  • The article first gives a survey of the movement that began in 1988 with the purpose of establishing a new regional South Estonian Vöru-Setu literary language. After a gener al introduction weprovide a concrete example ofthe Problems that have arisen in connection with setting up a new South Estonian Standard for the formation of inessive forms. In order to explain the backgroundfor the sociolinguistic discussions, we observe both language history and the dialect usage of different generations in the central part of the historical Vastseliina parish of Vom. A VARBRUL analysis is applied in order to study Variation in the formation of inessive forms.
