Resumen de The Scottish/English border in hindsight

Beat Glauser

  • The Scottish/English border has had its present shape since 1482. Its function äs a linguistic border is much younger, and to this day, the two do not cut across the area in exactly the same way, although the strikingly different Status ofthe vernaculars on either side suggests that they may do so eventually. A look at earlier phonological changes influencing the border area from the north and south corroborates the above assumptions, made on the basis of lexical material collected in 1970.
