On nomimal and verbal style: cultures or languages in contact?

  • General content: what are nominalizations; cultures and/or languages in contact; language ``Europeanization'' and ``functional-stylistic universals''; genres that are written by de®nition and the dominance of the ``nominal'' over ``verbal'' style in them; why and when does a verb generate a noun? The paper could also be entitled ``Cultures and/or languages in contact? The case of nominalizations''; or ``Towards the study of `Europeanisms' Ð as speci®c functional-stylistic universals.'' The subject, more thoroughly described in this way, emphasizes the cultural, contact, comparative, functional, stylistic, European, and universal aspect of nominalization processes in languages, leaving aside many other aspects also present.
