The author reflects on traffic accident fatalities in the U.S. and on the article "Traffic Fatality Reductions in the United States Compared to Reductions in 25 Countries" by L. Evans within the issue which suggests that if traffic fatalities in the U.S. had declined in the U.S. in the same way as they have in other countries 20,000 fewer Americans would be killed annually. He suggests that many Americans die in traffic accidents because the U.S. excludes science from influencing traffic safety policy. He argues that traffic fatalities in the U.S. can be reduced when public policy addresses road-user behavior.
