  • The author comments on the inoculation of people with sexually transmitted diseases in Guatemala from 1946 to 1948 and into the 1950s and considers the reasons behind the research and the need for reparations. According to the author, the study in Guatemala was approved by the Syphilis Study Section of the U.S. National Institutes of Health. The syphilis study in Tuskegee, Alabama, in the 1950s is also mentioned.
