  • The author reflects on the value of performing a Papanicolaou cytology screening (pap smear) procedure on a woman who no longer has a cervix, and it mentions the efforts to diagnose and treat invasive cervical cancer. According to the article, cervical cancer screening should be performed triennially on women aged 25-40 years old. The possibility of using a pap smear test to identify cancers of the vagina and vulva is examined, along with human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA tests.
