The author reflects on international finance and governance in relation to the 70th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the election of the WHO's next director-general. The Global Financial Crisis of 2008-2009 is addressed, along with the financial vulnerability of the WHO and the impact of voluntary donations on the WHO's budget. The author's claim that the WHO was unable to effectively perform the functions needed to deal with Ebola outbreaks in 2014 is examined.
