  • The article discusses research on depression and risky alcohol consumption among American Indian and Alaska Native women and their response to screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) intervention. Topics include the risks of alcohol-exposed pregnancy (AEP) which can lead to fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, the influence of depression on self-awareness and understanding of personal risk, and a reduction in alcohol use resulting from SBIRT.
