The article discusses a study in which a brief, easy-to-administer two-part intervention was used to enhance the coping and treatment engagement of veterans who had two or more emergency department visits within six months for suicide-related concerns. The intervention used safety planning and structured telephone follow-up post-discharge, and resulted in an increase in behavioral health treatment attendance and decreased hospitalization of the veterans.
