  • The article focuses on medical insurance for women in the U.S. prior to, during, and following pregnancy, and how the Affordable Care Act can increase the percentage of insured women. It states the U.S. is ranked 26th among OECD countries for infant mortality in 2010 and mentions the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System which tracks insurance coverage of new mothers. It reports on Medicaid coverage of poor women independent of pregnancy status.
