  • The author discusses long-term cohort studies involving epidemiology in Brazil in relation to the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) and other research programs which address socially relevant questions and health needs. Author Betty Friedan's book entitled "The Feminine Mystique" is examined, along with the 40th anniversary of the NHS. The role of the NHS in noncommunicable disease research is assessed, along with the health of North American nurses over the past 40 years.
