The author reflects developments on the prevalence of cases of drug- and alcohol-use disorders in the U.S. as of mid-2016. Also cited are the study by L. J. Welty and colleagues on the cases of substance-use disorders (SUD) among justice-involved young individuals in the country, the need to develop strategies to reduce recidivism due to its adverse effects to the community, and the Project Services to Assist Youth (STAY) program to resolve the issue.
