Artistic practices today are shifting toward a new structure of sense. The artistic proposals included in this new structure vary but they have several common themes. To a lesser or greater degree, they reveal a critical stance regarding current events. They are open ended, which gives them a generative aspect and both the realization and the viewer ́s response to them; convey a new sense of sincerity. However, in terms of being politically successful, they are rarely able to do much more than create awareness on identified levels, change individual lives to some small extent through colaborative processes, or launch a project that is continued, over time, by others becoming something other than art. Yet, by treating the analysis of these new artistic structures as if they were normative theory instead of fiction, the potential ability to imagine social transformation expands. It is a way of thinking about hope, acknowledging the autonomy and inventiveness of artistic production, as an ethical commitment in the restructuring of oneself with respect to others in the pursuit of social transformation.
